Commercial Kitchen Manager

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the culinary industry and possess a diverse set of skills. The candidate will work with diverse food entrepreneurs utilizing the commercial kitchen. The primary role will be to oversee the use of the kitchen by small business owner clients, daily inspection of the kitchen to ensure kitchen is cleaned and sanitized after each use and ready for next use. Communicating on sanitation, organization, and resource sharing is fundamental to role. Additionally, the commercial kitchen may also include training programs for food entrepreneurs that use a combination of classroom learning and practical training exercises.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Working with the Executive Director and Program Manager to develop and maintain the commercial kitchen as fully rented and in use. Identifying and addressing open times to obtain new clients.

  • The Kitchen Manager may be called upon to share expertise and participate in training programs commonly cover lessons both in general management techniques and restaurant-specific issues.

  • Tracking kitchen finances to identify areas of potential waste.

  • Managing supplies, inventory, equipment assuring daily that all is in working order for clients to operate.

  • Hiring new staff and providing training to facilitate understanding and adherence to all kitchen processes and procedures.

  • Streamlining the kitchen processes to maintain prompt service times and cleanliness of premises for all clients and further development of SOPs.

  • Setting regular cleaning standards for the kitchen and verifying that staff is maintaining sanitation levels.

  • Scheduling regular maintenance and cleaning.

  • Creating schedules for all kitchen staff & volunteers.

  • Creating and maintaining schedules of all Kitchen clients.

Salary expectations:

The average salary for a Kitchen Manager is $46,999 per year + benefits (adhering to the organization’s benefits package). Salaries for a Kitchen Manager may vary due to applicant’s experience, geographical location, and scope of job.

Education and training requirements:

The required education for a Kitchen Manager position can vary by restaurant.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or graduation from a culinary institute are an advantage, or 5 years of experience.

  • Individuals earning a promotion from within may not have an applicable degree, as their experience can prove worthiness for the responsibility.
