Individual Services

Nogales Community Development recognizes the individual employee as the central asset of any business and invests directly to add value, one person at a time.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

NCD, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the City of Nogales and several public and private organizations, offers Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to residents of Nogales and Santa Cruz County. This tax preparation service is available at no cost to families or individuals from January through April.

All of our volunteers, including members of the local community and NCD staff, are certified by the Internal Revenue Service.

Between 2010 and 2014, NCD helped 3,143 families receive $7,165,437 in tax refunds.

Volunteers are welcome. We will provide training.

A Public Private Partnership

The Frontera Nogales VITA & Asset Building Coalition is a partnership of public and private institutions including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Nogales Community Development, Arizona Community Foundation, Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona, City of Nogales, Literacy Volunteers of Santa Cruz County, Wells Fargo Bank, Nogales Community Food Bank, Mariposa Community Health Center, Wal Mart, AARP Tax Aide Nogales, Bank of America, United Way of Santa Cruz County, Rio Rico Fire District, and the Santa Cruz Housing Partners.

Luis Carlos David: Acclaimed Documentary Film Maker

Luis Carlos Davis always wanted to be a filmmaker. He had his undergraduate degree and was working on his Master’s degree in Latin American studies with a focus on media arts and journalism from the University of Arizona when he enrolled in NCD's IDA program. He used his IDA savings to study film through the New York Film Academy in Oxford, England.

He completed his Master’s degree and in 2009 released his critically acclaimed documentary ‘389 Miles: Living the Border’. The film has been screened nationally and internationally and has won him accolades at several film festivals. In 2010, he was named Tucson’s 40 Under 40 Man of the Year.
